At the tip of each flipper a small pod is attached by a long tendril. The flippers have a dark blue top side and a slightly reflective underside, brown in colour with small glowing orange spots. On either side of the Glow Whale, two huge, sail-like flippers extend diagonally upwards. These run along the sides of its body from the head to the lower back, which is covered in white spots. Well defined ridges are visible on the dorsal side. The body displays countershading, with the dorsal side being grayish blue and the ventral side light blue. Atop the head a pair of translucent blue "horns" can be seen. Each eye has a pill-shaped photophore directly in front of it. Its eyes have yellow irises and large black pupils. The Crabsquid frequently emits loud clicking sounds. The Glow Whale is huge and whale-like in form, with the body ending in a fluked tail. Crabsquids are also among the few creatures that can damage a Cyclops: while the damage they deal is fairly low and it takes repeated hits to achieve hull damage, their EMP attack still works on the vehicle and its low speed can make it tricky to get away. If the player approaches the Crabsquid in the Seamoth within its line of sight, the creature will chase the submersible a short distance and attack, with each hit taking off 20% of the vehicle's health. If a vehicle is affected by the EMP, its on-board Oxygen production will temporarily cease. In terms of game mechanics, this temporarily reduces the charge of any Battery or Power Cell affected to 0%: after a short time, it will be restored to its original level. The electromagnetic pulses are emitted as a highly concentrated ring-shape of green-colored electricity. The Prawn Suit is particularly susceptible to Crabsquid attacks as it is the only vehicle that cannot turn off its lights. Crabsquids will also physically attack light sources (such as vehicles and seabases) by slashing them with their legs. These factors makes it ill-advised to build near an area inhabited by Crabsquids or leave vehicles near Crabsquids. If light is shone at a Crabsquid they will retaliate with an EMP blast, temporarily disabling electronics, vehicles and Seabase power. However, using a vehicle's light will usually end up with the Crabsquid disabling it. Similar to the Boneshark, the Crabsquid is attracted to light and will follow certain light sources, meaning that it can be distracted using lights from the Cyclops, Seamoth, Prawn Suit, Seaglide, Flashlight or Flares. It can also be observed catching and eating smaller fauna, and attacking Warpers. Upon being approached, the creature will launch an attack, dealing 40 damage to the player. The Crabsquid swims by continuously inflating and deflating its transparent membrane, allowing for sudden bursts of movement, however it can also walk around on the seabed using its two sets of four legs. The two shortest limbs near its mouth form a pair of comparably small pincers of which it uses to attack by raising its legs. Its ten limbs are brown-colored and smooth. The Crabsquid's legs resemble those of a horseshoe crab, though tipped with small fins. The Crabsquid's head consists of four, large blue eyes with black pupils and an oddly shaped mandible below them. The Crabsquid's main body has two layers: a translucent, bulbous sac resembling a comb jellyfish's body, and a hard brown green body within, similar to that of a real life squid's mantle.
